✦ MOvement/FLOorwork

Come to my class that is nothing as you know it!

Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.
– Chinese Proverb

Is this a dance class as you know it? Nope.
Pilates? Not really.
Free dance? Definitely not.
MoFlo is what happens when somatic Pilates and floor-based contemporary movement have a very honest conversation – and then roll around on the floor together.
Designed for all-level dancers and curious movers, Come swing, flop, float, and throw your torso. Play with the dance of gravity, tension, and relaxation in your bones and breath. Roll, swing, and edge into a hypnotic self-massage without even realizing it. Laugh, sweat, play, and reconnect with your body— building strength, awareness, and creative range. — getting back into your skin & cells in a deliciously grounding way.

A baseline level of fitness is helpful, but not required.
Not just a workout — a lab for embodied transformation.

FAQ’s
Is this a dance class? And if so, what kind?

Not per se, no — But we do integrate the best of contemporary dance warm-up/conditioning, including a lot of Laban/Bartenieff juicy floorwork, & we work with some light choreography/combinations.

•. Is this a pilates class?

We integrate AIM pilates — from a more “somatic pilates” approach if you will. We use anchors on the skeleton & sequences from Joe P. himself woven into all the rest of it!

•. Is this “free dance”, similar to 5 rhythms or ecstatic dance?

No. If you enjoy this kind of dance, you also might enjoy MoFlo! And, if you enjoy ballet, hip-hop, contemporary, tai chi, capoeira, or yoga, you also might enjoy MoFlo.

•. Do I need to be fit?

A base level of fitness is beneficial, but not a requirement at the door. Go at your own pace! You are likely to sweat and raise your heart rate, as well as lower your tension levels & reset your nervous system!

✦ What People Are Saying About MoFlo:

Your class is changing my life. I love it and love that you’re teaching it.

Thanks, Kelly. I feel like a million bucks! I feel strong, sweaty, & like my tummy is 10 pounds lighter!”

“After taking pilates for 10 years, this was the first time I actually felt my stomach muscles, after 1 session with you.”

“I feel 10 years younger!”

“Kelly’s MoFlo class is like stepping back into your body. You can expect to move in ways you haven’t since childhood, when life felt playful, and your body felt free and strong. You’ll leave her class wanting to keep moving all day – open, energized and inspired!”

“I always feel fantastic after Kelly’s classes! More at home in my body, stronger and more relaxed. I love all the floor work, which has never been my comfort zone and now feels like my happy place. Kelly has a gift for bringing joyful play and movement together.”

✦ About Kelly/Movement Roots:
Kelly’s movement roots run deep — and wide. She earned her degree in Interior Architecture (with a near minor in dance) from the University of Oregon, where her thesis project was designing a Movement Therapy Center — a blueprint that has quietly shaped her life’s work.

Her early training in modern release technique and African dance continued in the SF Bay Area at ODC and ROCO. At the same time, she was mentored in somatic Pilates through Bodies Mind “movement guru” (Kelly’s words) Carole Amend, where she deepened her obsession with gravity, bones, and how we move when we stop trying so hard.

MoFlo — her signature class — is the lovechild of all of this.
It’s what happens when a somatic approach to Pilates and floor-based contemporary dance have a really honest conversation… and then roll around on the floor together.

Everything Kelly does — most tangibly in MoFlo — is about getting people back in their bodies.
It’s about remembering we’re alive, noticing our pulse, and inhabiting our bones, breath, and blood fully, messily, beautifully.

It’s movement that feels like home. Not performance. Not perfection. Not hashtags.
Just a lab for moving stress-free, playfully, and with power.

*(This is pie. Cherry pie!)

✦ Beyond the Studio
Kelly is a multidisciplinary artist and curator of immersive experiences whose work spans two decades and multiple continents. Her creative roots stretch across visual art, installation, movement, and large-scale experiential design.

She launched Messy Monkey Arts, an experiential event company in San Francisco (clients included the likes of Google and Eventbrite). She led Play Jump Eat, a massive photo-installation project featuring over 100 models, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and was featured in Elle Decor, Oprah Magazine, and more.

Today, her abstract paintings and sensory-based installations are exhibited in Cape Town, and her retreats reflect the same ethos: creative, irreverent, beautiful, embodied.

She doesn’t host retreats to help you “find your goddess self.”
She curates experiences that let you sweat, rest, laugh, and be.
Her goal? Not to fix you — but to remind you how good it feels to take up space.

“I envision a being, a human form as it was meant to be & to function in its complete perfect state reveling in its breathing exulting in its motion beautifully assertive in its total involvement with existence”.  – Trudi Schoop, Swiss choreographer & pioneer of dance therapy
