My painting life began by accident in the San Francisco Bay Area, with whimsical signs I made for Rainbow Orchards’ farmers market stand. Within a few years I was showing and selling paintings across the Bay Area, was invited by Sense Fine Art in Woodside to create a body of work, was awarded a grant fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center, and was represented by Lyssa Morgan Gallery in Florida.
Then I spent two decades making art in other ways: photography, installations, movement. In 2024 I returned to painting with Bottled Energy, a new body of large-scale abstract work. Since then it has been shown in Kalk Bay and Constantia, Cape Town, and is represented online by Jasper & Jute across Africa and Europe.
The work is gestural and instinctive: scribbles, big color and raw, unprimed canvas, where the cream-colored ground becomes an active part of the painting. The newest works are mixed media on archival paper, framed in stained oak with museum-quality glass. Might I say, they’re gorgeous.
