Kelly Wainwright is a multidisciplinary artist, movement facilitator, writer, and creative producer working across painting, installation, photography, text — and her signature movement practice, MoFlo (Movement + Floorwork).
Her practice spans vivid abstraction and large-scale, immersive experiences — from collapsing PB&J sculptures to women bathing in milk beneath wide skies. Whether through paint, fabric, sound, movement, or ritual, her work explores how we connect, and come alive.
Kelly is teaching MoFlo (movement & floorwork) classes every Friday at the Kalk Bay Community Center from 10:30-11:30. Classes start again on January 23, after the holidays. Don’t have FOMO! Go check it out after a dip in the tidal pool & a sauna — all in the same location!
It’s all about bringing people back into their bodies — through play, color, sensory immersion, words, bones, gravity, throw, flop, and float — helping us remember the flavor, the saltiness, the smells, the pulse of being alive.
Renihabiting our own skin again — fully, messily, beautifully.
Rooted in intuition and improvisation, her process is tactile and embodied — a dance between the absurd and the intimate.
“In my painting practice, I embrace raw canvas, unprimed surfaces, and unvarnished expression. I resonate deeply with fearless mark-makers like Richard Serra, Cy Twombly, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Energy, honesty, and texture are playfully explored, and imperfection is celebrated.”
Based in Cape Town and working globally, Kelly is currently developing two major installation projects, continuing her abstract painting practice, and offering MoFlo classes, workshops, & retreats.
